On behalf of the Greater Tattnall Chamber of Commerce we welcome you to the official website for Tattnall County located in the heart of southeast Georgia. Tattnall County is among the oldest counties in the State of Georgia having been created in 1801. Our county provides a wonderful opportunity for new businesses and investments as well as an ideal alternative to folks wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of a large metropolitan area.

    Tattnall County encompasses over 492 square miles of green pastures and rolling forests. The county is gifted with five charming and progressive communities including Cobbtown with easy access to major highways and interstates; Collins with rail and easy access to major highways and interstates; Glennville, the largest city in the county with easy access to major highways and interstates; Manassas with rail and easy access to major highways and interstates; and Reidsville, the county seat with access to major highways and interstates and an airport.

    Tattnall County is an excellent example of leadership in preservation, both historic and natural. In 1988, Tattnall County received one of ten national Presidential Historic Preservation Awards for the restoration of the Alexander Hotel, which was built in the 1890s in Reidsville. Additionally, the historic Tattnall County Courthouse in Reidsville which was built in 1902 was reopened in 2009 after a complete renovation with an emphasis on the preservation of the original. In addition to county and state offices being in the courthouse, it houses the Greater Tattnall Chamber of Commerce. Plans are presently underway to restore the historic Glennwanis Hotel (circa 1926) on Barnard Street in Glennville. Other structures that have been restored in the county include the historic Nelson Hotel located on Main Street in Reidsville and the W.L. Morris Building in Collins. Not only are homes and buildings restored, natural preservation of the rare Elliotia Racemosa plant – otherwise known as the Georgia Plume – has also been undertaken. The largest colony of this almost extinct plant is nurtured in Big Hammock Natural Area, located within the county.

    Recreation is as plentiful and diverse as the history of Tattnall. Fishing, hunting, golfing, camping, canoeing, paddleboats and swimming are available for all ages. Fishing is abundant in 650 well-stocked ponds, the Ohoopee and Altamaha Rivers, and two local lakes. The Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park features a 12-acre lake and camp sites, and one can enjoy a beautiful 18-hole golf course. Over 260,000 acres at the Fort Stewart Reservation are filled with deer, turkey, quail and dove for avid hunters. The historic Wiregrass Trail (www.wiregrasstrail.com), traveling along Georgia Highway 57, runs through the cities of Cobbtown, Collins, Reidsville and Glennville. This route is the shortest distance from Atlanta to the Golden Isles of the coast. Additionally, the famous Woodpecker Trail runs through Tattnall County via Highway 121.
